The fool (Le Mat) is an essential creature. The dog follows the fool and leans between his genitals and anus - the Muladhara Chakra, whence all energies spring. Should the dog run before the fool, the fool would be blind. The dog represents the human ego.

Symbols are bound to be misunderstood.
